Thankyou to everyone who joined us recently as we officially launched Provoke with a celebration and charity event at Moo Moo The Wine Bar + Grill, Broadbeach!
It was a superb night made even better by the phenomenal support shown for our magazine and the generosity of our guests. We want to say a massive thankyou to all of our sponsors on the night and to everyone who spent big in the silent and live auctions. We are so proud to donate the total $1963 that was raised to Women’s Legal Service Queensland, in support of the wonderful work they do to raise awareness of Domestic Violence in Australia.
We were fortunate enough to have Natalie Davidson from WLSQ speak at the launch, where she gave a powerful and insightful look into the issue of domestic violence and how the generous donations from our event would help to change the lives of women and children in Australia. We’ve included below for you an excerpt from her brilliant speech. You’ll also find below a photo gallery of the social images taken on the night. We hope you enjoy, and we look forward to seeing you all again at Provoke’s next night out!
Natalie Davidson – Women’s Legal Service Queensland:
“Congratulations on the launch of Provoke! My name is Natalie Davidson and I thank Provoke for nominating Women’s Legal Service as the beneficiary of the evening.
Women’s Legal Service provides free legal and welfare help to Queensland women and their children whose lives are affected by domestic violence. Unlike the positive business launched here today, we hope to one day be out of business, but after 31 years, sadly we are getting busier each day.
We know demand for our free help has increased by 40% over the last year alone, and yet we can only help 1 in 10 women who seek our help. As we are here tonight in these beautiful surrounds, I thank you for drawing attention to the fact that for thousands of Queensland women, tonight their home will be a place of control and fear, affecting their lives and those of their children.
Each year we help 3,700 women and children seeking legal and welfare options; your help tonight will help us to launch a new Help Line beginning in January 2016. This Help Line, 1800 WLS, will be available to women throughout Queensland who need vital legal information for their next steps into safety, and will achieve a 700% increase in the women we are able to assist. This will mean that 7000 more women every year are one step closer to a safer future.
On behalf of all the staff, volunteers and clients of Women’s Legal Service, I thank you for your kindness and support.”
