Doughnut addicts rejoice, Brisbane’s famous baked-not-fried spherical treats are now within reach of your dessert loving fingers!
WORDS: JAS RAWLINSON
That’s right, after months of stalking cafes around Brisbane, you will now finally be able to fulfil your gluten-free doughnut fix anytime you like, with Nodo Donut’s opening their very own bakery!
Perched on the corner of Ella and Chester St in Newstead, the official Nodo bakery is light and spacious, with beautiful green vines dangling delicately from baskets, hanging pendant globes, and a round window that looks through to the kitchen. As well as serving up all of your favourite flavours, which include combinations of white chocolate raspberry, chocolate strawberry, pumpkin spice and carrot, you can also sip on a range of teas, juices, chai’s and coffees.
While the Bakery will officially open to the public on Saturday October 31, I was lucky enough to head along to their pre-launch party this morning, where Nodo creator and founder Kate Williams was awash with excitement. “This has been a lifelong dream,” she shared with me, while looking around the packed room in almost disbelief. “I was so nervous before hand, but now I’m really excited.”
As excited as we all were about nabbing a doughnut and coffee, there was one doughnut that was strictly out of reach. Protectively covered by a glass dome, the holy doughnut sat lonely and coveted, surrounded by a lush forest of greenery and vines. As we later learned, this was ‘the world’s most expensive doughnut’, a little sphere of decadence that included a range of luxurious ingredients such as edible flowers and 24k gold! This fancy doughnut wasn’t just for show though, it was created specifically for the launch in order to raise money for ‘Child’s Play QLD,’ a wonderful not-for-profit charity who provide free and affordable psychological access for children.
So how much did this golden doughnut go for? $10,600 to be exact! Overwhelmed with excitement, I could see how much this meant to many in the room, including Child’s Play QLD founder Eliza Vassallo.
The pre-launch was a wonderful and successful event, and I’m sure this is just the beginning of more amazing things for Nodo! Be sure to check them out from tomorrow!
